The Missing Link: Cognitive Apprenticeship as a Mentorship Framework for Simulation Facilitator Development

Increasingly, clinicians and clinical educators are using simulation-based education (SBE) as a valued educational modality within healthcare organizations. Typically, these facilitators have minimal time to dedicate uninterrupted formal development. To enhance effective use of SBE, need learner centered opportunities that promote the development sustainment expert SBE skills, knowledge, attitudes behaviors. Implementing mentorship approach for facilitator is feasible option. This article proposes Cognitive Apprenticeship model (Collins et al., 1991) can be adapted utilized mentorship.
